Frequently Asked Questions

General

BCBT is an evidence-based intervention that uses a 3-phase treatment approach to directly target suicide risk.

Thank you for your interest in BCBTweb! This course is currently under development, with the training only available to testers at this time. Please check back to learn about testing opportunities and to register for the course once it is launched!

BCBTweb was designed for behavioral health providers. There is not sufficient evidence to suggest that these methods would be successful interventions without prior training in delivering therapy. Therefore, BCBTweb is most appropriate for providers who are trained to provide cognitive and / or behavioral therapy. Clinicians who complete BCBTweb will need additional consultation with an experienced clinician to become fully proficient in the treatment. At the end of the training, we will provide resources for you to obtain that consultation.

This evidence-based training will provide an easy-to-understand theoretical model of suicide, an emphasis on treatment fidelity, approaches for optimizing patient adherence, skills training, and strategies for increasing patient self - management and personal responsibility. Specific interventions for suicide prevention included in this training are: Introduction & Treatment Overview, Essential Ingredients, Research, Case Conceptualization & Theory, Foundational Issues, Structure of BCBT, Suicide Risk Screening & Assessment, Crisis Response Planning, Treatment Planning & Eliciting Patient Engagement, Lethal Means Counseling, Emotion Regulation Skills Training, Cognitive Flexibility Skills Training, and Relapse Prevention. We've also designed the website to be a resource for materials and handouts to be used with patients.

BCBTweb is designed to take approximately 9 hours. However, it is a self-paced training, and some take more time and others take less. Once you have registered, there is a "Modules" page that tells you the amount of "Required" and “Optional” time to complete each module.
